“Do not despise the day of small things” Zechariah 4:10

Greenford Gospel Church: your local church for over 90 years.

Greenford Gospel Church's roots go back to the 1850s, when William Perkin, the Victorian Chemist first discovered the first synthetic dye “Mauveine”.  He built a factory in Oldfield Lane, in what became the Lyons site. He also built factory workers houses. In one of these he started a Sunday School and this was the start of Christian outreach in Greenford Green.

The church traces its roots to this time and to the Open-Air Tent Campaigns held in the fields near the Black Horse Public House on the canal. Horsenden Hill was a tourist attraction, and people came out of London by train and boat to be in the countryside. Christians from Ealing purchased the land, built the wooden building in 1932 firmly planting Greenford Gospel Church. (photo 1). This building remained until the late 1950s when the Elders and Trustees decided to demolish the old hut and build a brick structure.

Parts of the old brick building remain. The church continued to grow and in the 1980's it was decided to build a rear extension. This was opened for Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee year in 1982 and was named the 'Jubilee Hall'.

A further extension to the front of the building was added in 1995 (Photo 3).

In 2023 the Elders and leaders began to pray specifically about the building and the future of the church. It became clear that the front of the building needed redevelopment to become a more open and welcoming space. During our times of prayer, what became clear was that we needed a "New Wine skin" and that a complete renovation was needed. Over the years, the church had lost its connection with the Greenford Green Community. The redevelopment is a key part of reconnecting with our local community.

In July 2024, the work began, and the church dedicated the building work to our God.

The church has always stood firm in its knowledge that our God is faithful and His promises to His people are sure. The promises found in Jeremiah 30 have become very precious to us and we believe we will see these fulfilled.

This is what the LORD says:

“I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents
and have compassion on his dwellings.
And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins,
and the palace will stand in its rightful place.
Thanksgiving will proceed from them,
a sound of celebration.
I will multiply them, and they will not be decreased;
I will honour them, and they will not be belittled.
Their children will be as in days of old,
and their congregation will be established before Me;
and I will punish all their oppressors.
Their leader will be one of their own,
and their ruler will arise from their midst.
And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me,
for who would dare on his own to approach Me?”  declares the LORD.
“And you will be My people,
and I will be your God.”

Jeremiah 30:18-22
